The Rants have made a musically exquisite corpse in ‘Off Axis June’ by building seemingly disjointed bits of music into an ear catching piece that firmly holds your attention. This tune seams to have been sliced and diced and then somehow perfectly spliced back together in a surprisingly cohesive way. They have created a very eclectic sound for themselves from the saloon swingin’ rambles of ‘Ain’t it a Drag’ to the hushed whispers of ‘Moving to Isreal’. The drumming in ‘Off Axis June’ is a refreshing deviation from The Rants typical guitar saturated sonance. It creates a slick sound that slithers from a low, chill jazz rhythm to a faster, more intense beat in a matter of seconds. Basically, if you’re not topless, gyrating around a tribal fire by the end of this song, you will want to be.

Two Brothers (Carlos and German Bonil) based in Bogotá, (Colombia) play with care crappy instruments and also create their own instruments, for instance a Hair dryer modified with a light sensor that change its tone as it gets closer to the light. Or a “baguette” that looks like an odd piece of a really old electric (not electronic) machine and sounds like an anarchic Irish bagpipe. The band called Mugre speaks of a generation of artists tired of dealing with media standards and pleasant creations.
They feed their own necessity of recreation with different everyday objects and their love for the music or… I may say the “everyday sounds” producing tunes filled with non-generic moves or references still catchy and relaxed, their vocals belong to a nobody’s land. I even heard at the concert how somebody called its style as a Gótico Chistoso.
